Patch Asks: How Do You Feel About the GOP Property Tax Relief Plan?
Preston Rep. Greg Davids proposed a plan that would save Minnesota home and business owners $80 million in property taxes every two years.

On Monday, the Star Tribune reported that GOP leaders proposed a plan that would save Minnesota home and business owners $80 million in property taxes every two years.
The plan would cut property taxes for business owners by about 4 percent in the metro area and 18 percent outside it. It would also increase the refund for homeowners who had local property taxes rise more than 12 percent from 60 percent to 90 percent.
Preston Rep. Greg Davids (RβDistrict 31B), chairman of the House Taxes Committee, said the proposal would help business owners and communities that have seen fast-rising property taxes.

Davids' plan follows the with a market value exclusion. That change shifted more of the tax burden onto businesses, apartments and more-expensive homes.
Yet some critics say Davids' plan would just encourage local governments to spend more, while others say the state should reinstate the old system. So we'd like to hear your thoughts. How do you feel about the GOP property tax relief plan?
