Police Catch Suspected Car Thief After Chase

Adai Rajihi Williams has been charged with auto theft and fleeing police in a motor vehicle.

Prosecutors filed charges on Wednesday against a Minneapolis man accused of stealing a car from Hopkins, according to court documents.

An officer spotted the stolen car April 25 at 44th and Lyndale North in Minneapolis, Detective Raymond Laudenbach wrote in the criminal complaint.

The driver pulled around other traffic and fled. Officers chased the vehicle until it crashed into a taxi cab at 29th and Lyndale.

Afterward, 20-year-old Adai Rajihi Williams said he saw the car in a parking lot with the keys in it and took the vehicle, according to the court documents. The car was reported stolen April 22.

Williams has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, a felony that carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. He’s also been charged with fleeing police in a motor vehicle, a felony with a maximum penalty of three years and one day in prison and a $5,000 fine.
