Police Catch Suspected Car Thief After Chase

Prosecutors filed charges on Wednesday against a Minneapolis man accused of stealing a car from Hopkins, according to court documents.

An officer spotted the stolen car April 25 at 44^th and Lyndale North in Minneapolis, Detective Raymond Laudenbach wrote in the criminal complaint.

The driver pulled around other traffic and fled. Officers chased the vehicle until it crashed into a taxi cab at 29^th and Lyndale.

Afterward, 20-year-old Adai Rajihi Williams said he saw the car in a parking lot with the keys in it and took the vehicle, according to the court documents. The car was reported stolen April 22.

Williams has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, a felony that carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. He’s also been charged with fleeing police in a motor vehicle, a felony with a maximum penalty of three years and one day in prison and a $5,000 fine.
