Health & Fitness

Share the wealth this season ...

I get a little nostalgic and a bit more charitable around the holidays. I know I should feel this way all year round and I do, but this feeling is at its strongest for me at Christmastime.

Its at this time of the year that I realize how extremely blessed I am: nice little house, warm clothes, good health (for me and my family), enough food to eat, great job and money to pay my bills.

So, I was perusing online for some charities to contribute toward. Imagine my surprise when I saw more than 700 giving opportunities in and around the Hopkins area! To name a few needs (notice I said "needs" not "wants") that were listed on the www.gofundme.com website were a little puppy who needed an operation, a family who desperately needed a new furnace and a mom who needed to pay medical bills.

These are our neighbors. There are 700+ neighbors who need our help for everything from medical bills to combating homelessness! If we can't help our neighbors with a few dollars -- at the very least during this time of year -- then what has society become I ask you?
