Work Continues on Nine Mile Creek

The work is scheduled to conclude March 15.

If you’ve driven down 11th Avenue South recently, you’ve probably seen crews hard a work on Nine Mile Creek.

Construction is taking place from Ninth Avenue South to Highway 169. Work is expected to conclude March 15, according to the .

Nine Mile Creek Watershed District embarked on the project to stop erosion caused when the creek was straightened and to limit runoff into the creek.

The work includes realigning sections of the creek, stabilizing creek slopes and other creek bed improvements.

Contractor Sunram Construction will temporarily stockpile dirt from the excavation in the archery range area. They’ll remain through next winter, when they’ll be used to backfill abandoned creek sectionsβ€”a delay that allows vegetation to get established in the new creek channels.

The archery range will remain open but will be shortened and changed to an east-west orientation for the 2012 season, according to the city.
