INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, MN — Officers responding to a welfare check in Inver Grove Heights found three people dead inside a home Sunday.
Police say officers were called to check on an individual in the 3200 block of 78th Street East and located three deceased people inside the residence upon arrival.
Police say there is currently no known threat to the public. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting investigators at the scene, and the medical examiner will release the identities and causes of death once that work is complete.
The investigation remains active. Police say further information will be provided in a future media release when it becomes available and is appropriate to release.
Dakota County Commissioner Joe Atkins, who represents the area, said in a social media post that the community is grieving and asked residents to hold off on sharing names or details until the medical examiner makes an official announcement.
He said the loss is being felt especially among young people who knew those killed, and urged neighbors to check on kids, friends and anyone who might be struggling.
Cuppa More Pages, a coffee shop located about a block from the scene, offered free coffee and apple cider Monday from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for anyone who wanted a place to sit, talk or simply be near neighbors, no purchase necessary.
Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the Inver Grove Heights Police Department Crime Tip Line at 651-450-2530.
