Electronic and Child Safety Seat Recycling Event Coming to Inver Grove Heights March 29

Inver Grove Ford Lincoln will be hosting a “GREEN UP while you CLEAN UP” recycling drive at its dealership on Thursday, March 29, from 3 to 8p.m. The recycling event is open to the public and gives community members an opportunity to recycle old electronics and child safety seats (car seats and booster seats) that are no longer needed.

Our footprint doesn’t end after we buy and consume products; the final impact happens when items are discarded into landfills, which take up valuable land and produces unnecessary greenhouse gases. “We want to help protect our environment of unnecessary waste and we want to help members of the community find a convenient place to responsibly discard and recycle unwanted items,” said Shallon Hagen, Marketing Director from Inver Grove Ford Lincoln. The “GREEN UP while you CLEAN UP” program will help two local non-profit organizations: Jobs Foundation and Recycling Association of Minnesota.

The Jobs Foundation employs economically disadvantaged adults through a program called, “TechDump”. TechDump is an electronics recycling service where all materials are processed and recycled in the United States. All personal data from personal computers are sanitized according to Department of Defense standards. A charitable gift receipt is provided for the donation.

The Recycling Association of Minnesota's program to recycle unwanted child safety seats is called REseat. Child safety seats should not be used beyond their expiration date; most have an expiration date of six years. Furthermore, due to liability concerns, thrift stores will not accept them for reuse. The car seats will be safely and securely recycled with 95% of the components being recycled locally. This program also employs individuals with disabilities to dismantle the child safety seats.

Electronics recycling is free ($10 donation request for tube televisions and monitors) and child safety car and booster seat recycling $10 per seat. All questions should be sent to marketing@invergroveford.com or (651) 554-7096.
