Emily Cook Graduates from Dietetic Internship Program

On Friday, May 20 Emily Cook, Inver Grove Heights, graduated from the Dietetic Internship program at Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn. Cook completed a required one year internship to become a license eligible dietitian. During the one year internship, she fulfilled competencies in food service management as well as clinical and community dietetics.

Interns are rotated through several sites including Concordia College Dining Services, Innovis, Fargo Family Health, St. Joseph’s, Sanford Health, WIC, Breckenridge Public Schools, Fargo VA, St. Mary’s and the St. Cloud VA.

In order to be accepted into the program students must have received a degree in nutrition or dietetics with at least a 3.0 GPA. After completing the internship, graduates are eligible to take the dietitian exam. More than 70 percent of Concordia graduates are employed in the dietetic field within three months of graduation.

Concordia College Dining Services houses one of only 226 dietetic internship programs in the country and is one of the four percent that focuses on food service management.

2011 graduates include: Natalie Bench, Glendora, Calif.; Kelsey Bratlie, Breckenridge, Minn.; Emily Cook, Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; Michelle Synhorst, Fargo, N.D.; Amy Gabrielson, Maple Grove, Minn.; Ruth Kennedy, Leesburg,Va.; and Lisa Marthaler Alexandria, Minn.

 Concordia has accepted eight interns for the 2011-12 program. Only 50 percent of dietetic graduates are placed into an internship program due to lack of available spots.
