Henry Sibley youth group creates video to celebrate partnership with Rotary Club

The Henry Sibley ALMAS (Anglos Latinos Motivated to Succeed) students created the "Rotary Flow" video to celebrate the long partnership between ALMAS and West St. Paul-Mendota Heights Rotary Club.

The song and music video was conceived, created and produced by the ALMAS students. The production creatively illustrates how ALMAS and Rotary work together to benefit the community, including through projects such as cleaning Delaware Ave. twice a year through the Adopt-a-Road project, serving meals through Loaves & Fishes at St. Matthew's, and ALMAS-specific community service projects.

The video (http://youtu.be/x4AZ9oeAAJw) also incorporates the principles of Rotary's 4-Way Test, a series of questions all Rotary Clubs use to guide work and partnerships of the Club.

"This video is such a creative testament to the work among our Club and ALMAS, and truly shows how we can work shoulder-to-shoulder in our community," said Rayna Sturmer, president of the Rotary Club.

Members of ALMAS regularly work with the Club to serve meals at Loaves & Fishes at St. Matthew's, at the Club's annual charity golf tournament and fundraiser, and at the semi-annual Adopt-a-Road cleanup of Delaware Ave.

Rotary regularly supports ALMAS by annually offering two $1,000 scholarships for ALMAS students, providing donations for equipment and computer purchases, and more.

ALMAS is a student youth group with more than 260 members, and primarily serves Latina/Latino students. The group works on a range of topics, including health awareness for families; delivers school support to improve graduation rates; operates a laptop computer donation program for students; and more.

Henry Sibley's Latina/Latino students have a 90 percent graduation rate, partly due to the strong success of the ALMAS program, which has served as a model for other student-based programs at schools in Minnesota and in other states.

The Rotary Club supports a wide range of local charities, and also international infrastructure projects. Support of projects is possible through two annual fundraisers, one of which is the annual Moonstruck Charity Golf Tournament and Silent Auction slated Sept. 7 at Southview Country Club. The annual glow-ball tournament draws a wide range of supporters who sponsor holes, donate to the silent auction, and golf.
