River Heights Arts Alliance sponsoring Dance Film at Ordway Natural Studies Center
Dance film "Terrain" being presented at Ordway Natural Studies Area in Inver Grove Heights.
This is an interesting story with roots in Inver Grove Heights. Rebecca Heist, the Dance Program Director at Macalester College in St. Paul choreographed and directed a short film highlighting the intersection of dance and nature.
To find the perfect place to film her dance she came to the Ordway Natural History Study Area in Inver Grove Heights. This area is comprised of approximately 270 gorgeous acres of land along the Mississippi River on Inver Grove Trail. The access to the site is just north of the Pine Bend Elementary School. The property was gifted by Katherine Ordway, of the famous Ordway family, to Macalester College in the 1960's with the charter that it also be used for community outreach, including with the arts. For the past 40 plus years it's been used primarily as a biology station for Macalester College.
Many of you have probably seen the sign for the property along the Trail, but were put-off by the "Private Property" sign. Well, now it's your chance to visit this beautiful property, watch this exquisite 6 minute film presented by the artist, and take a fall colors tour of the property guided by Dr. Jerald Dosch of the Macalester biology department. The property features 5 natural habitats, including prarie and wetlands. If you love nature, you'll certainly enjoy this tour.
