Veterans Day in Inver Grove: A Tribute to Guys Like Al and Joe

The state's official Veterans Day Program, which will take place in IGH again this year, will pay tribute to vets like Al Millinczek and Joe Kennedy.

The state’s official Veterans Day Program will take place at the Inver Grove Heights Veterans Memorial Community Center again this year, just as it has for the past decade.

Please join me on Friday, November 11, at the IGH VMCC at 10 a.m. for the ceremony.

Since many regard the Veterans Day program as the State’s most important ceremonial event, it is a tremendous honor for our community to host the official tribute to our state’s veterans.

I can’t imagine a more fitting place to officially honor our state’s veterans than at the Inver Grove Heights Veterans Memorial Community Center. Many of the reasons for this are plain. The Veterans Center’s name, purpose, location, size and facilities all make it an appropriate choice for such an event.

But the main reason the IGH Vets Memorial Community Center is the perfect spot for the program is because of Inver Grove veterans like Al Millinczek, of American Legion Post #424, who played such a key role in making the Vets Center a reality.

Al was a WWII veteran who passed away in 2008 at the age of 94.  He typified the sort of service that he and his fellow veterans provided to our community for decades after their time in the armed forces came to an end.

The ceremony is also a tribute to vets like Army Spc. Joe Kennedy, a Simley grad, who never got the chance to come back and serve his community, because he made the ultimate sacrifice.

I look forward to seeing you on Veterans Day to pay tribute, not just to Al and Joe, but to all of our vets who have done so much for our country and for our community.
