Come join Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) for a restoration event at the gorgeous Pine Bend Bluff restoration site before winter arrives! Volunteers will work with FMR & Great River Greening ecologists and staff to stack pre-cut buckthorn brush and participate in other restoration activities. Volunteers will be working in the black ash seepage swamp- a unique ecosystem where forested wetlands have black ash trees as 50% or more of their tree cover.
The Pine Bend Bluff Natural Area is one of the largest and most diverse native ecosystems left in the metro area. Sand-gravel prairie, oak savanna and oak forest plant communities make up this beautiful landscape. It is also part of the Mississippi River migratory bird flyway, serving many waterfowl and songbird species. The work of the volunteers will help preserve this site as part of our natural heritage.
