Every Day is Farmers Market Day at Kev's Korner
Kev's Korner Vegetable Stand has been providing locals with fresh produce for 30 years.
Kevin Huebscher jokingly says his family has been on the land around his vegetable stand so long they chased the dinosaurs away.
Not only is he the last of five generations of his family to farm, his is one of the last roadside produce markets left in the area.
The land surrounding Kev's Korner Vegetable Stand was once part of 240 acres owned by his forebears, the Wille and Shindeldecker families, who at one time had all the land between 60th and 70th street for a quarter mile on each side of S. Robert Trail.

These days, Huebscher owns the land his business sits on and leases 140 acres nearby on which he grows produce for his stand: zucchini, pumpkins, squash, strawberries, raspberries, green onions, peppers, tomatoes, corn, green beans, lettuce, and a number of other crops so numerous he loses track.
Huebscher learned farming at his father's side and for 30 years has been a fixture along South Robert Trail, for 13 years at the corner of 60th street—hence the name Kev's Korner—and, for the last 17 years, in his current location.

Business has been slow the last several years, but Huebscher can only guess at the reasons, changes in traffic patterns, families, cooking habits, and the proliferation of farmer's markets among them.
Regular customers who wander in all say they appreciate the freshness of the produce and like supporting local farmers.
Inver Grove Heights resident Terry Stepan has been shopping at Kev's Korner for the last ten years. "I love to come here," Stepan says, "because the produce is wonderful; it couldn't be any better."
Charlotte Anderson, also of Inver Grove Heights, appreciates being able to run in and get just a few fresh items without supermarket parking hassles.
Huebscher, whose day starts at 5 a.m. and ends around 11 p.m., tries to run his business according to the Consumer Bill of Rights, saying customers are what it's all about. "They pay for everything," he said, "from the paint on the table, to the electricity, to the gas for the tractors."
