Five Things to Do This Weekend

Looking for things to keep you busy this weekend? Look no further.

The kids are home from school an extra day this weekend, and you don't have to go back to work until Tuesday.

What are you going to do with all that extra time? Fortunately, Patch has a few suggestions:

  • Dig the diverse song list of Minneapolis-based cover band Orange Whip. Equally capable of belting out Michael Jackson's "Beat It" or slowing it down with "Folsom Prison Blues" by Johnny Cash, Orange Whip is scheduled to perform at 10pm on Saturday, Jan. 15 at Jersey's Bar and Grill. $6 cover charge after 8pm.
  • Throw punches at Veterans Memorial Community Center at 5:30pm on Sunday during the community center's "Boxing Camp." The first session starts this Sunday. Registeration for the class is required. The class costs $49 for members of $79 for non-members.
  • Educate your children on the Civil Rights movement and Martin Luther King Jr. with a few non-fiction children's book recommendations by the Children's Literature Network.
  • Get crafty on your day off. Stock up on arts and crafts supplies from stores like JBC Beads and Crystal in Inver Grove Heights, and start creating your own bracelets, jewelry or other acessories.
  • Warm up your stomach with a from a local bar or restaurant in Inver Grove Heights. Nothing takes the edge of the January chill like a pomegranate margarita, Caramelized Spaniard or other toasty alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
