Get Out: Weekend Events in and around Inver Grove Heights

- Pancake Breakfast and Young Eagle Rides at South St. Paul Airport
When/Where? 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18, at Fleming Field, South St. Paul Airport.
Why Go? South St. Paul's Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 1229 is once again cooking up its semi-annual pancake breakfast in the Wipaire Inc. main hangar at 1700 Henry Avenue. Regular and blueberry pancakes will be available this year, as well as French toast, scrambled eggs and sausages. Proceeds from the event will help send kids to aviation camp, and also pay for gas for the free airplane rides, donations to the Neighbors, Inc. food shelf and college aviation scholarships. The EAA Chapter will also provide free Young Eagle airplane rides for children ages 8 to 17. Sign up at the main terminal building at 1725 Henry Avenue. Flights are on a first-come, first-serve basis and will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Price: The breakfast is $8 for adults, $5 for kids. Young Eagle airplane rides are free.
- SeptemberFest
When/Where? 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday Sept. 16; 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17; and 11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18.
Why Go? In its eighth year, Septemberfest —dubbed the "Biggest Rock the Flock Party in the Burbs”—is an annual fundraising event benefitting Faithful Shepherd Catholic School in Eagan. The event includes an outdoor music festival featuring national performers and regional favorites. Friday’s Family Fun Night includes carnival games, music and more for preschoolers through middle school-aged kids, along with food by Jake's City Grille. Boogie Wonderland headlines the Main Event Concert on Saturday, and an outdoor Catholic mass will be held on Sunday. Price: Family Fun Night admission is $5 per person or $20 per family. Prices for games, activities, raffle, food and beverages start at $1. Tickets for Saturday concert are $20 each.
- Model Railroad Show and Sale
When/Where? 9 am to 3 pm on Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds Education Building, 1265 North Snelling Avenue.
Why Go? The Twin Cities Model Railroad Museum hosts a semi-annual Model Railroad Show and Hobby Sale at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in May and September each year. There will be operating layouts in several scales—over 200 tables of new and used scale models. You’ll find antiques, collectibles, tools, books, videos, toys, buildings, magazines, prints, posters, photos and more. Your hand stamp for the sale is also good for admission to the Twin City Model Railroad Museum, including the Toy Train Division, on the day of the sale. The Museum and Toy Train Division, located at on the second floor of Bandana Square at 1021 Bandana Blvd. E., will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Price: Admission is $6. Kids under age 5 are free.
- St. Patrick's Fall Festival
When/Where? Friday, Sept. 16, to Sunday, Sept. 18, at the , 3535 72nd St. E., Inver Grove Heights.
Why Go? Plan on enjoying the entire weekend at this event, which includes the Attic Treasures Rummage Sale, a wine and beer tasting, a silent auction, live music, bingo, a classic car show and much more.

- Fitness Class Preview Week
When/Where? 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. from Monday, Sept. 12, through Sunday, Sept. 18, at , 8055 Barbara Ave., Inver Grove Heights.
Why Go? Here’s your chance to try out one of the drop-in fitness classes offered at Veterans Memorial Community Center at no charge. This is open to all. Call 651-554-2480 for more info.

- Harmon Farms Trail Run
When/Where? 8 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18, at in Inver Grove Heights. Registration begins at 6:45 a.m.
Why Go? The fifth annual trail run features 5-mile and 10-mile races over rolling, rugged terrain, as runners complete one or two laps around the park.
Price: The entry fee for the race is $35 on the day of the event, and includes a t-shirt and goodie bag.
