Inver Grove Heights School Schedule Adjustment For Secondary Students, March 15-26

Middle and high school families,

"We are so grateful that many of our secondary staff have been able to complete their COVID-19 vaccinations. However, a final group of dozens of secondary staff still need their second vaccine dose. The group includes many staff members whose appointments were delayed by the February winter storm that interfered with vaccine deliveries across the country.

To allow a significant number of secondary staff to attend rescheduled vaccine clinics while avoiding disruptions to student learning, the weekly schedules for March 15-19 and March 22-26 will be adjusted for middle and high school students, including those in center-based programs.

For the weeks of March 15-19 and March 22-26 ONLY, Hybrid IGHMS and Simley students in Group A will:

• attend school buildings on Mondays and Tuesdays
• participate in Distance Learning on Wednesdays and Thursdays
• have their Flex Day, which is typically held on Wednesdays, on Fridays instead

For the weeks of March 15-19 and March 22-26 ONLY, Hybrid IGHMS and Simley students in Group B will:

• participate in Distance Learning on Mondays and Tuesdays
• attend school buildings on Wednesdays and Thursdays (typical Friday transportation will be provided on Wednesday, March 17 and March 24, to account for the schedule adjustment)
• have their Flex Day, which is typically held on Wednesdays, on Fridays instead

For the weeks of March 15-19 and March 22-26 ONLY, 199 Online IGHMS and Simley students in Group A will:

• have class with their teacher on Mondays and Tuesdays
• work on self-paced learning on Wednesdays and Thursdays
• have their Flex Day, which is typically held on Wednesdays, on Fridays instead

For the weeks of March 15-19 and March 22-26 ONLY, 199 Online IGHMS and Simley students in Group B will:

• work on self-paced learning on Mondays and Tuesdays
• have class with their teacher on Wednesdays and Thursdays
• have their Flex Day, which is typically held on Wednesdays, on Fridays instead

For the weeks of March 15-19 and March 22-26 ONLY, IGHMS and Simley students in center-based programs will:

• have class with their teacher on Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (typical Friday transportation will be provided on Wednesday, March 17 and March 24, to account for the schedule adjustment)
• have their Flex Day, which is typically held on Wednesdays, on Fridays instead

Please note that there will be no teacher office hours on March 19. There will be office hours on March 26.

This schedule adjustment will allow students to continue their learning while dozens of secondary staff members complete their COVID-19 vaccinations. We understand that, when vaccine appointments were offered, staff had little choice in the times and dates of their appointments and that many were originally scheduled before March 15. Unfortunately, the winter storm in mid-February delayed vaccine deliveries, resulting in everyone’s appointments being rescheduled to a later date. Moving the Flex Day to Friday during the weeks of March 15-19 and March 22-26 will avoid any staff shortages that would otherwise move students online for two days each week.

We are looking forward to seeing our students back in our hallways again, but as has become the norm during this pandemic, we know we must always be ready to adjust. Thank you for being flexible so we can provide learning without disruption while prioritizing health and safety by allowing our staff to get their second vaccine."
