Inver Grove Heights Schools' Distance Learning Feedback Leads To Adjustments

Thank you to the more than 900 families who took the Distance Learning Feedback Survey that was sent out at the beginning of the month. The results showed us what is working and what needs to be improved, and we are working with staff to make those adjustments.

According to survey results, students are stressed about grades, some families need more flexibility in attendance while others need more structure for their children, and some requested more support to motivate students or more real-time interactions between students and teachers.

In response, the district is implementing a number of improvements. Grading adjustments for trimester 3 will hold students harmless for this period. The attendance process is being revised based on what we have learned about Distance Learning since it began. Enrichment opportunities are available to families who want additional activities. Click here for enrichment ideas for K-2, 3-5, and middle school students. Teachers are receiving professional development on video technology and other ways they can connect with students. Social workers, our cultural liaison, paraprofessionals, and other staff are also working on connecting with families, checking in with students, and offering additional support. We’re happy to celebrate some successes as well. Parents reported that the access to learning tools from their school has been helpful and that many staff have been responsive, flexible, and patient. Some mentioned personalized calls and other things teachers and staff have been doing to check in on students and show they care.

There is no substitute for in-class learning and the connection that comes with it, but with your input, we are looking forward to finishing this school year strong. We can’t wait to get back to the classroom. In the meantime, we can’t thank you enough for your dedication to your child’s education and for your partnership.
