ISD 199 Announces Summer Learning

ISD 199 families,

"Summer learning programming for 2020 will look different than in the past. In accordance with Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) guidance, Inver Grove Heights Schools will offer modified Distance Learning for students participating in summer learning. This summer’s programming will include Summer Academy, Extended School Year, Summer School, and Credit Recovery to support eligible students based on state targeted services criteria. Summer programming will be held Mondays-Thursdays with no class on Fridays. Program dates are listed below:

• Elementary and Middle School Summer Academy: July 13-August 6
• Extended School Year: June 15-July 9
• High School Summer School and Credit Recovery: June 15-July 9

Kindergarten Readiness Camp will not be offered this summer.

More Student-Teacher Meeting Time
Summer Distance Learning will include real-time class meetings and instruction as well as real-time one-to-one or small group sessions between teachers and students. The increased contact will help ensure delivery of the supports that summer learning requires. We understand that many families continue to deal with disruptions to their normal schedules. Teachers will remain flexible and work with families when scheduling their meetings.

Learning Tools for All Summer Students
As with Distance Learning during the school year, the district is committed to providing learning tools to all of the students who need them. This requires that the district collect devices from most students at the end of this school year so they can be updated with the applications students in summer programming will need. The only students who will keep their devices will be notified to do so.

Summer Childcare
Spartan Kids’ Care will offer modified summer childcare as well. The program will offer all day childcare, 6:30 AM-6:00 PM, from June 15-August 21, with no care on July 3. Students entering 1st through 6th grade are eligible. This summer, Spartan Kids’ Care will be located at Salem Hills Elementary School, 5899 Babcock Trail in Inver Grove Heights. Program space will be limited in order to abide by MDH and MDE standards. Spartan Kids’ Care Summer 2020 program registration will be open to all students in the district, but priority will be given to children of Tier 1 healthcare and emergency workers.

Summer Meals
Boxes of free breakfast and lunch meals will continue to be distributed to children age 18 and younger on Tuesdays and Fridays this summer. No identification or paperwork is required. The last day of school year meal distribution will be Friday, June 5. Summer Meals will begin Tuesday, June 16, with some different meal distribution times and locations around Inver Grove Heights. La programación de aprendizaje de verano para 2020 será diferente a la del pasado. De acuerdo con la orientación del Departamento de Salud de Minnesota (MDH) y del Departamento de Educación de Minnesota (MDE), las escuelas de Inver Grove Heights ofrecerán aprendizaje a distancia modificado para los estudiantes que participan en el aprendizaje de verano. La programación de este verano incluirá Academia de Verano, Año Escolar Extendido, Escuela de Verano y Recuperación de Créditos para apoyar a los estudiantes elegibles según los criterios de servicios específicos del estado. Más Tiempo de Reunion de Estudiante-Maestro
