The Inver Grove Heights School Board met on Monday, March 9, with the following items on the agenda:

District Highlights

• Simley High School Activities Director Will Short introduced winter athletes who talked about their successful seasons this year, including the school’s wrestling state champions and its girls basketball team on their way to the state championship tournament. ISD 199 Director of Community Education Barb Pierce also gave an update on winter activities, including the Winter One Acts theatre production and their participation in the state’s One Act Play competition.

Information items

• Simley High School Principal Jerry Sakala gave an update on the high school, including an overview of the school’s increased graduation and MCA numbers for 2019 and new initiatives such as the Advanced Course Fair organized by the school’s Equity Team. The sponsors of Simley’s new Step Up team also spoke about the creative outlets the team is providing for students.
• ISD 199 Director of Learning Teajai Anderson Schmidt and American Indian Community Liaison Chris Johnson gave a program update about the American Indian Education Program.
• ISD 199 Superintendent Dave Bernhardson presented the first reading for review of policies.
• ISD 199 School Board Vice Chair and Treasurer Sherry Warrick presented the Superintendent Mid-Year Evaluation.
