Spartans get back on the winning track with a 2-0 win over visiting Tartan in boys soccer Tuesday

After two losses and a tie in their last four games, the ninth-ranked Simley High Spartans badly needed a win Tuesday against the visiting Tartan Titans.

They got it, blanking the Titans 2-0 to improve to 6-2-2 on the season and 3-2 in Classic Suburban play.

Junior attacker Zach Myran and senior midfielder Austin Monsrud scored Simley’s goals. both in the first half.

“The game was quite comfortable, especially after we scored the second,” said Simley coach Noel Quinn. “It would have been nice to get another goal to make sure of the win, but we did not look like conceding tonight and it was just a case of seeing it out to the end.”

After giving up just two goals in their first six games, the normally stout Spartans had been gashed for five goals in losses to St. Thomas Academy and South St. Paul in two of their last three games. But against Tartan (1-9), the Spartans controlled the action and allowed the Titans few good offensive chances.

The Spartans play at Hill-Murray (4-2-1) Thursday.
