R-E-S-P-E-C-T!

Last night, Monday, July 8th I attended the first of the Bi-Monthly City Counsel meetings. We were led by the Boy scouts in the Pledge of allegiance. After Call to Order and Roll Call, there was the first presentation which was Recognition of Fire fighter Dan Bernardy who was the recipient of the Community Service/Public Education Award form the Minnesota State Fire Asscoiation. An introduction was being given by Fire Chief Judy Thill when a male senior citizen decided it was time to discuss an issue with another senior citizen. Though they thought they were whispering, they could be definitely heard. It was this young mans' moment to be recognized and these two, gentlemen, could not wait or at least have the courtesy to go outside to finish their discussion.  The Mayor had to stop the Fire Chief and ask the two men to step outside to continue their discussion so that the presentation could continue.
Chief Thill's introduction was concluded and the award given. Fireman Dan Bernardy's brief talk afterwards was so amazing and inspirering. I hope that the standing ovation we in attendance gave him, let him know how much we appreciate him and all he does for the City of Inver Grove Heights.
I was saddened and embarrased at how rude, inconsiderate and disrespectful these two men were. I applaude the Mayor's handling of the situation and hope that in the future these two individuals will be more respectful.
