Retired IGH Teacher Donates $20,000 to Police K-9 Unit

Woodbury resident and longtime IGH teacher Sharon Glasrud saw the story about in lieu of birthday presents.

“It touched my heart,” she said.

She also saw that the was $20,000 away from adding a third police dog.

So she cut a check.

“I just wanted to help out,” Glasrud said Thursday on the phone from Florida, where she has spent the past two winters.

Glasrud, a retired District 199* schoolteacher who has lived in Woodbury for the past 14 years, said she’s always owned dogs and appreciates the work of service dogs in the community.

Asked why she donated the money, Glasrud said, “First of all, I love living in Woodbury.”

“And I think (the K-9 unit) is a wonderful program,” Glasrud said.

She said she has always owned dogs, and has two now, a terrier and a Scottie.

“They’re wonderful companions,” Glasrud said. “It would be difficult for me to learn to live without a dog. They’re part of the family.”
