Simley Softballers Challenge Hill-Murray Before Falling
The Spartans took 4-3 third-inning lead over the visiting Pioneers, but could not hold the advantage before losing 11-7.
The Simley softball team made a game of it, but in the end came up short for the fourth time in five games with a hard-fought 11-7 loss to visiting Hill-Murray in a Classic Suburban Conference contest on Monday afternoon.
After falling behind 3-0, the Spartans rallied to take a 4-3 lead in the third inning as Celina Nehmer, Brittney Willaert and Jennifer Willaert all hit two-out RBI doubles.
However, the Pioneers logged eight runs over the fifth and sixth innings to turn the one-run deficit into an 11-5 edge, despite strong pitching from Nehmer.
