Sports Roundup: Simley Soccer Squads Enter Postseason

Spartans learn of sectional seedings, first-round opponents over the weekend.

The boys and girls soccer teams both head into postseason play this week after both Spartans squads learned of their seedings and first-round opponents for the Section 4A Tournament on Sunday.

Girls Soccer

The Simley girls soccer team followed up a 10-5-1 regular season with a No. 2 seed in its 4A tournament.

The Spartans earned a first-round bye and at least two home games, beginning with a hosting of either No. 7 Mounds Park Academy or No. 10 St. Paul Como Park at 5 p.m. on Saturday. A win has Simley hosting a sectional semifinal on Oct. 18.

Boys Soccer

After a 6-7-3 regular-season, the Simley boys soccer team earned a No. 4 seed and the rights to home games in the first two rounds of the 4A bracket.

The Spartans will host No. 13 Community of Peace Academy on Tuesday at 7 p.m., with a win, they will welcome either No. 5 St. Croix Lutheran or No. 12 St. Agnes to West St. Paul for a second-round matchup on Saturday.

Girls Tennis

The Simley girls tennis team won one match before bowing out of the Section 3AA Tournament last week, as the No. 8 Spartans topped No. 9 Holy Angels 4-3 on Oct. 4 before falling to No. 1 Prior Lake by a 7-0 score on Oct. 6. 

Selected Spartans members will compete in the sectional individual tournament that runs from Oct. 14-18.

Volleyball

A 24-th-place finish in the St. Michael-Albertville Tournament following four wins and a loss over Oct. 7 and 8 dropped the Simley volleyball team to 9-15 overall.

The Spartans enter this week at 4-7 in Classic Suburban Conference play with three regular-season matches remaining: Oct. 11 at South St. Paul, Oct. 13 vs. Henry Sibley and Oct. 18 at Richfield.
