The reading on Monday at Hilltop was a precursor to the National Education Association's Read Across America Day, which takes place on March 2, the day of Dr. Seuss' birthday. Atkins joked with his young audience before diving into the reading, saying that Hilltop was his least favorite school when he was a student at Salem Hills Elementary, because Hilltop sports teams always beat Salem Hills.
