More than 100 residents learned about the latest in computer technology at Student Led Technology Conference.

The district hosted its second annual Student Led Technology Conference [Feb. 25]. Approximately 60 students from various grade levels taught their parents, grandparents and community members how to use technology devices and software applications. More than 110 individuals attended the conference.

Malik Bush, the event's keynote speaker, opened the conference with an energizing presentation covering the latest apps that kids and adults are using in everyday life.

Following the keynote, attendees headed to breakout sessions of interest. Sessions offerings included learning to create eBooks on iPads, connect with peers using social media, video chat using Google+ and Skype, as well as a variety of other options. In all, 13 session offerings were available to participants throughout the morning. It provided an excellent interactive learning opportunity for both the “teachers” and attendees.

“I got to interact with students and ask them about technology from their perspective,” said Cindy Nordstrom, District 199's School Board chair. “I got to see their interactions with adults and how motivated they were to do so.”
