Whiz Kid: Maddie Barry

After a summer hiatus, Patch's weekly Whiz Kid feature returns for the 2011-2012 school year.

Accomplishments:
Maddie is a captain on the varsity soccer team. She plays stopper and scored the first goal of her career earlier this season when she booted the ball into the upper corner. She was named Homecoming queen earlier in the week.
Key to Awesomeness: Maddie was named homecoming queen at coronation on Monday. The honor came to her as a huge surprise. "I was overwhelmed with joy," said Barry.

Students, teachers and even District 39B Rep. Joe Atkins (DFL) have been calling Barry "your highness" and bowing down to her in  hallways at school.

"I'm just like, 'you don't need to do that,'" said Barry, laughing. "It's cute though."

"I'm excited to go to soccer practice on Friday, go home and quick shower, head to the game and lose my voice again," said Barry.

Maddie will be introduced at halftime along with Homecoming King Kenneth Wilson and the entire Homecoming court. The matchup versus South St. Paul starts at 7 p.m. on Friday.
