Legislator Visits Shirley Hills School

Rep. Erik Paulsen visits Shirley Hills Primary School in Mound.

By Laura Metzger

U.S. Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-MN) visited Shirley Hills Primary School on Friday, April 5.

During his visit, Paulsen read “House Mouse, Senate Mouse” by Peter and Cheryl Barnes to Pamala Weber's second-grade class and discussed his daily responsibilities as a U.S. congressman.

The curious Shirley Hills students had multiple questions for Paulsen, including

  • "Do you miss your daughters?"
  • "What do you like most about your job?"
  • "What do you like least about your job?"
  • "What kind of car do you drive?" and,
  • "Should we make a bill together?"

After reading to the students, Paulsen toured the Shirley Hills kitchen and cafeteria facilities to see the construction updates planned for summer 2013. He then wrapped up his visit by eating lunch with the kindergarten class, enjoying fish nuggets, a fresh romaine salad, blueberries and strawberries, and milk.

The kindergarten students were eager to guide the congressman through the lunch line, and helped him sort his waste at the organics recycling station.
