Excelsior Optical Business Has Historic Past

Brevier Optical cements itself as industry leader and member of Excelsior's business community.

When Jason Trucano opened Brevier Optical in January of 2010, he knew he had a nice little story with his product line of designer frames and comprehensive optical services. As it turned out, this was only part of the story as the location he bought held its own special place in Excelsior history.

"I loved the fact that this building was the old Excelsior police station and jail," Trucano said. "It has a unique feel to it and certainly has an historic element with Excelsior. We liked the idea and location because this place is much different than what customers are used to seeing in Optics and we want this to be an open and relaxed environment when they come in for optical services. I loved the unique heritage of the building and we even have bars in one of our windows to pay homage to the old jail that was here."

Trucano purchased the building in late 2009 and Brevier Optical was born. He says he saw an opportunity in an industry that he felt needed a change.

"I've always done stuff on my own and looked to fill a void in the marketplace," Turcano said. "When we started to do research in the optics industry, it became clear that the industry was a bit archaic and we wanted to take a fresh approach to things.”

Trucanon says Brevier Optican concentrates on making agreements direct to the consumer by cutting out middle men in the process.

“We also realized that there is a big service component in optics so we really concentrated on having a retail and consumer focused environment,” he said.

In addition, Trucano wanted to bring a selection of products that were not readily available from other optical stores and to bring top professionals to Excelsior and Brevier Optical.

"We've gone to great lengths to literally scour the earth to find the best frames and lenses," he said. "We have agreements with IC-Berlin and Zero G to name a few and I really wanted to bring something special that consumers can't find elsewhere. We also have one of the top doctors in the area with Dr. Jason Jedlicka joining our team. He teaches at the University of Minnesota and heads up their contact lens group. He's a national speaker and a consultant to many national brands."

Nestled along Highway 19 just north of Water Street in Excelsior, Trucano believes Brevier Optical has become a must see not only for the product line and services, but for its rich, Excelsior history as well.

"There is a new city park coming in about a month or two right across the street, and we are looking forward to be associated with that environment,” Trucano said. “Our location along with the history of the building are really exciting to be associated with and I really love calling this community our home."
