Ideal Days For Midweek Matchups

Local teams take advantage of sunny, dry afternoons to get in a full schedule of games.

Tuesday and Wednesday featured two of the most ideal back-to-back days of the spring sports season so far and sports teams from Minnetonka High School made the most of it with a full schedule of events.

Wayzata Baseball: Trojans Fall To 4-7

Back-to-back losses to Lake Conference rivals Eden Prairie and Edina on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, dropped the Wayzata baseball team to 3-7 overall and 2-5 in the conference standings.

Ryan Poppitz  leads the Trojans with a .522 batting average and nine runs batted in. Jake Steinbach's nine runs scored pace the club. Paul Voelker leads the pitching staff with a 1.12 earned run average and 33 strikeouts.

Wayzata Boys Golf: Lowenstein Goes On A Tear

Tyler Lowenstein of the Wayzata boys golf team claimed back-to-back medalist honors in meets on Tuesday and Wednesday to lead the Trojans to a pair of victories.

Lowenstein first carded a par 72 over 18 holes at the Ridges of Sand Creek to pace Wayzata to a win in the Nelson Invitational on Tuesday. The Trojans scored a 304.

Wayzata then won a Lake dual meet against Hopkins, 216-239, on Wednesday as Lowenstein and teammate Joe Selle shared first place with scores of 52 at Oak Ridge Country Club.

Wayzata Softball: Eden Prairie 5, Trojans 4

The Wayzata softball team fell 5-4 in eight innings to visiting Eden Prairie on Wednesday to drop to 5-4 overall and 4-3 in the Lake standings.

Individual statistics were not available. The Trojans travel to Minnetonka on Friday for a 4:15 p.m. game.

Wayzata Boys Lacrosse: Edina 12, Trojans 8

Edina scored five goals in the fourth quarter to surge past visiting Wayzata on Tuesday night to defeat the Trojans by a score of 12-8.

Wayzata fell to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference with the setback. Ryan Biek leads the team with 11 goals, while Eric Fong has logged 10 goals and 11 assists thus far.

The Trojans host Eden Prairie on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Wayzata Girls Lacrosse: Edina 20, Trojans 7

The Wayzata girls lacrosse team fell 20-7 to host Edina on Tuesday to fall to 2-6 on the year.

Mackenzie Shannon and Kaitlyn Worde led the Trojans with two goals apiece in the loss. 

Wayzata travels to Eden Prairie for a 5:30 p.m. game on Thursday.

Wayzata Boys Tennis: Hopkins 4, Trojans 3

Hopkins defeated the Wayzata boys tennis team, 4-3, on Tuesday. Individual results were not available.

Orono Baseball: Litchfield 3, Spartans 0

The Orono baseball team fell to 2-6 on the spring with a 3-0 loss at Wright County Conference foe Litchfield on Tuesday.

Individual statistics were not available. The Spartans host Hutchinson on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Orono Boys Golf: Urness, Clark Co-Medal In Trojans Win

Brian Urness and Dakota Clark were co-medalists as their individual cards of 35 led the Orono boys golf team to a Wright Countymeet victory at Becker National Golf Course on Tuesday. The Trojans logged a team score of 148.

Orono Softball: Spartans 10, Litchfield 0

A 10-0 shutout of visiting Litchfield improved the Orono softball team to 9-2 this season.

Individual statistics were not available. The Spartans travel to conference-leading Mound-Westonka for a 4:30 p.m. game on Thursday.

Orono Girls Lacrosse: Spartans 13, Cooper 10

The Orono girls lacrosse team defeated visiting Robbinsdale Cooper, 13-10, on Tuesday to improve to 5-3 this year.

Jordan Nielson scored a game-high seven goals, while Trojans teammates Shea Noerenberg and Eloise Hrusovsky each netted three scores apiece.

Orono plays at Mound-Westonka at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Mound-Westonka Baseball: Whitehawks 5, Annandale 0

The Mound-Westonka baseball team improved to 5-3 on the season with a 5-0 shutout of Annandale on Tuesday.

Individual statistics were not available. Mound-Westonka, currently third in the Wright County standings, travel to Hutchinson for a 4:30 p.m. game on Thursday.

Mound-Westonka Boys Golf: Whitehawks Third In Conference Meet

A score of 164 earned the Mound-Westonka boys golf team a third-place finish in a Wright County meet at Baker National Golf Course on Tuesday. Individual results were not available.

Mound-Westonka Softball: Whitehawks Continue To Lead Conference

A 3-1 win at Annandale on Tuesday kept the Mound-Westonka softball team unbeaten at 7-0 this season.

KatieJo Delisle leads the Whitehawks with a .625 batting average, with McKae Bailey pacing the team with eight RBI and Brooklyn Pouti's nine runs scored are a team high.

Mound-Westonka Girls Lacrosse: Eastview 10, Whitehawks 4

The Mound-Westonka girls lacrosse team dropped to 3-4 on the year with a 10-4 loss to visiting Eastview on Tuesday.

Kristin Jones, Sydney Dreyer, Mackenzie Severson and Kia Johnson all scored once apiece for the home side.

The Whitehawks host Orono on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Mound-Westonka Boys Tennis: Whitehawks 4, Washburn 3

The Mound-Westonka boys tennis team defeated Minneapolis Washburn by a 4-3 score on Tuesday. Individual results were not available.
