International Speaker to Present "Islam & The Great Commission" at Our Savior Lutheran
Hesham Shehab to speak at Our Savior Lutheran Church and School
International speaker Hesham Shehab will serve as guest speaker at Our Savior Lutheran Church and School (23290 Highway 7, Excelsior) on Sunday, November 8 at 8:00 am, 9:30am, 11:00 am, and 6:00 pm. Focusing on Islam, Christianity and evangelism, Hesham’s inspirational message will include his conversion story in the context of the Great Commission to make disciples of all nations.
Growing up in Lebanon, in a world of bitter animosity between Muslims and Christians, Hesham experienced a physical attack when only about 7. By age 13 he was recruited by an extremist Muslim group and later fought against Christians in the 1975 war in Lebanon. After preparing to become a Muslim Preacher, his brother was killed by a Christian militia. Hesham’s response was to immerse himself in studying ways to exact revenge by attacking Christians. However, after hearing the Sermon on the Mount in a college course on cultural studies, he was brought to faith in Christianity – where he found a way of forgiveness and reconciliation instead of hatred and revenge.
Later, Hesham earned an M.A. in the history of the Arabs, did Ph.D studies in the history of Islam, and then became an ordained LCMS minister. He established, and currently pastors Salam Christian Fellowship, a Chicago-area faith ministry that reaches out to new immigrants from eight Middle Eastern countries, sharing the Gospel with Muslims in three languages.
