White Hawks Standout Reports for All-Star Duty
The Mound Westonka graduate was a late addition to the roster, but he's making the most of his time preparing for Saturday's All-Star game at TCF Bank Stadium

Mound Westonka graduate Nate Schermerhorn didn’t have as much time to prepare for this week’s All-Star football training camp, but he was more than happy to jump in on short notice.
Schermerhorn fielded a phone call from game director Dave Fritze on Friday—two days before training camp began for the 38th Annual Minnesota All-Star Football Game. As a roster replacement, Schermerhorn simply joined the team at Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter on Sunday and was ready to go.
“It was easy, because I was lifting and running,” Schermerhorn said. “I was just ready for football next year.”

Schermerhorn will be a special member of the All-Star Game on Saturday at the University of Minnesota’s TCF Bank Stadium. When he takes the field for the 7 p.m. game time, he will be the first White Hawks player since 1990 to compete in the game.
Schermerhorn will compete as a defensive lineman for the North All-Star team against the South. The past 31 All-Star Games have been in the Metro vs. Outstate format.

On Saturday, Schermerhorn will be one of four athletes representing the Wright County Conference. He and Delano’s Nick Jacobs will be on the North team, while Dassel-Cokato’s Tyler Irvin and Glencoe-Silver Lake’s Trevor Lueders will compete for the South.
Schermerhorn, who plans to play for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire next year, said being part of the weeklong training camp and the game itself has been a good experience.
“Being around all these great athletes, everyone is good out here,” he said. “No one is slacking off or anything. It’s good to be around all these athletes, and it’s good to get ready for college football next year.”
Schermerhorn said he thinks he might be used as a special teams player or an outside linebacker in his first year at Eau Claire, but either way his presence at this week’s All-Star event will benefit him down the road.
“I was really excited and just pumped to be out here,” he said. “It’s a really cool experience.”
