Spartans' club team win on Monday among the local high school sports highlights

With the weather at least proving to be slightly cooperative for much of the weekend, area teams took advantage by getting in a number of contests as the first month of the spring season neared a close.
Wayzata Softball: Trojans Above .500
The Wayzata softball team claimed three-straight victories around the weekend, to get above the .500 mark at 4-2.

After ten-running Bloomington Kennedy, 11-1, last Thursday and beating Eden Prairie by a 15-9 score on Friday, the Trojans opened this week with a 5-1 defeat of the Lake Conference rival Skippers.
Kelsey Kleist leads Wayzata with 12 runs batted in and a .650 batting average. Jessica Williams has 19 strikeouts over five games and has a 2.39 earned run average.

Wayzata Baseball: Trojans Break Even With Conference Win
A 5-0 shutout of visiting Lake rival Minnetonka on Monday got the Wayzata baseball team to the .500 mark at 3-3.
It was the third-straight win for the Trojans, who also topped Bloomington Kennedy by a 6-0 score last Thursday and then hung a 7-3 loss on Edina on Saturday.
Ryan Poppitz leads Wayzata with a .615 batting average and four runs batted in, with Jake Steinbach's five runs scored pace the club.
The Trojans travel to Robbinsdale Cooper on Wednesday, Hopkins on Friday and Benilde-St. Margaret's on Saturday.

The Wayzata girls lacrosse team fell to 1-5 on the spring after a 16-9 loss to visiting Stillwater on Monday.
The Trojans had won their first game of the season in a previous outing on Saturday, topping Champlin Park by an 18-6 score after falling 13-6 to Minnetonka last Thursday.
Taylor Kramer leads Wayzata with 12 goals, while Mackenzie Shannon has six goals and six assists.
Hopkins pays host to the Trojans on Thursday, both teams have one Lake Conference victory.
Mound-Westonka Softball: Whitehawks Enter Week At 4-0
The Mound-Westonka softball team topped Hutchinson, 8-6, on Thursday to improve to 4-0 on the seaosn heading into a scheduled road trip to Delano on Tuesday.
KatieJo Delisle leads the Whitehawks with a .615 batting average, while Brooklyn Pouti's seven runs scored and seven RBI topping the team; Kim Hutchins has a 3-0 record off the pitching rubber, with 33 strikeouts and a sparkling 0.39 ERA.
Mound-Westonka Baseball: Whitehawks Win In Nine Innings
The Mound-Westonka baseball team went nine innings before shaking loose host Annandale in an 11-8 victory to improve to 4-2 on the season.

Orono Softball: Spartans Sweep Hutchinson In Doubleheader
In its first games in a week, the Orono softball team thumped Hutchinson in a doubleheader by scores of 21-1 and 9-1 on Monday.
Becky Smith went 5-for-8 with a pair of home runs and eight runs scored in the two games, with Erin Lucas also homering twice and Jessica Flakne smacking a grand slam.
The Spartans are scheduled to travel to Dassel-Cokato on Tuesday, before hosting Delano on Thursday.

Jordan Nelson led the Trojans in defeat with three goals, while Mackenzie Skatter scored twice and Shea Noerenberg, Catherine Fraser and Haley Nielson all netting one tally apiece.
Orono is scheduled to host Totino-Grace on Tuesday, Chaska on Thursday and Maple Grove on Saturday.

The Orono boys lacrosse team is 6-0 on the season after an 18-8 defeat of Mankato on Monday.
Sean Keogan scored four goals for the Spartans, with Chandler Sampson and Alex Gross tallying three goals apiece; Crosby Sampson, Parker Gross and Derek Alford both scored twice, while Connor Hanson and Nick Schroeder finding paydirt once each.
The Spartans are off until a May 2 game at Delano.

The Orono boys golf team won the Burl Oaks Invitational on Monday, with Mound-Westonka placing ninth on the par-72 course in Minnetrista.
