Orono Football's Late Lead Doesn't Hold Up
The Spartans allowed 22 unanswered points on Saturday, fall to BSM 36-32

The Orono football team’s season came to a painful end on Saturday, as the Spartans allowed Benilde-St. Margaret’s to score 22 unanswered fourth quarter points in a 36-32 loss in the Section 6AAAA semifinals.
The Spartans (3-7) came within minutes of an upset in St. Louis Park, but the Red Knights (5-4) found a way to advance. BSM faces Spring Lake Park for the section title on Friday.
Orono built its lead early with a three-yard touchdown run by Grant Schoen and a seven-yard run by Zach Grochowski—giving the Spartans a 14-0 lead.

After BSM cut it to 14-7, Koller Adzick ran a 92 yard kickoff return back for a touchdown making it 21-7. And after the Red Knights cut the deficit to a touchdown again, Tom Wachman’s touchdown and Grochowski’s two-point conversion made it 29-14. Neil Purdy’s field goal gave Orono a 32-14 lead to end the third.
But BSM stormed back with three straight touchdowns, capped by a pass from Keaton Studsrud to Isaiah Gray from 26 yards out to give BSM the win.
