Orono Rugby Falls in State Title Game

The Nightmares couldn't quite slip past Armstrong in a 5-0 defeat at Blake Stadium

The Orono U19 girls rugby team lost to Robbinsdale Armstrong 5-0 on Sunday in the Division I girls state championship match at The Blake School in Hopkins.

Orono and Armstrong battled to a scoreless tie through the first 55 minutes of the contest. But with five minutes to play, Armstrong's Sarah Lent scored to give the Falcons a 5-0 lead, which they wouldn't relinquish.

The Nightmares fell to Armstrong 12-10 on April 13, and Falcons coach Jimmy Hanson said facing Orono is one of his favorite matchups of the year.

"They always play us tough," Hanson said. "We beat them earlier in the year on a last minute score, 12-10. We've got a little bit of a rivalry between the two."

Orono finishes the year with a 7-3-0 record, while Armstrong repeated as state champions with a 9-0-1 mark.
