Osseo Knocks Wayzata Out of American Legion Baseball Tournament

Wayzata lost a tough 9-6 decision to Osseo Sunday evening in the 2011 Jim Hanus Memorial Gopher Classic Tournament. The loss knocked Wayzata out of the American Legion baseball tournament.
Wayzata finished 3-2 in pool play. Wayzata opened against eventual pool champion Tri-City Red (New Brighton) Friday and lost 11-3 in six innings. Wayzata bounced back with two wins Saturday, blanking Fargo 7-0 and beating Rosemount 9-4.
Wayzata also won its first game Sunday afternoon, taking care of Thunder Bay, Canada, 11-3.

But in a winner-advances game, Osseo got the best of Wayzata by three runs.
Tri-City Red (New Brighton) won the six-team Bethel pool and advanced to Monday's 16-team championship round.

The Gopher Classic Baseball Tournament is the largest American Legion Tournament in the United States with 66 teams competing at 11 sites. Teams from 10 states and two Canadian provinces are playing in the tournament, which concludes Tuesday.
