PHOTOS: Wayzata Swim Team Poised to Defend State Title

Wayzata girls swimming placed first at the Section 5AA True Team meet held at Plymouth Arena and Pool on Saturday.

The Wayzata Trojans won the Section 5AA True Team Sections swim and dive meet over the weekend with 1,479 points. Mounds View was second with 1,236.5 points and Armstrong came in third with 897 points.

Wayzata will now move on to True Team State to defend their state title.

Wayzata Swimmer Madison Preiss placed first in the 200-yard individual medley relay and 100-yard breaststroke, while Anna Petty took first in 50-yard freestyle. Mackenzie Merriam won the 100-yard butterfly, and Emma Paulson took first in the 100-yard freestyle.

Wayzata also placed first in the 100 yard and 400 yard freestyle relays.

Players to watch:

Brooke Fontaine: The freshman set a new pool and meet record in 11-dives with a score of 361.15.

Madison Preiss: The eighth grader set a new meet record in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:14.58

Mackenzie Merriam: The junior set a new meet record in the 100 Fly with a time of 59.98. She was also a member of the 200 Medley Relay, which also set a meet mark.  

Emma Paulson: The junior set a new meet record in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 58.36. She was also a member of the 200 Medley Relay, which also set a meet mark and also finished first in the 100 freestyle and 400 freestyle medley.
