Preparation Pays Off for Mound Westonka Student

Vania Jeh's PSAT scores were among the best in the nation.

Mound Westonka High School senior Vania Jeh was honored at Monday's school board meeting for her selection as a "Commended Student" by the National Merit Scholarship Program. The honor came after Jeh scored in the top 5 percent of the 1.5 million students who took the PSAT as juniors last year.

Vania has a difficult course schedule this year, which includes AP level classes in stats, calculus and physics. She has also taken Chinese in previous years, and she will compete in her third year of Quiz Bowl this year.

“It’s a great honor to be recognized in this program,” said Jeh, who also thanked all the teachers at Westonka who have helped her along the way.

Jeh plans to attend college for business and is considering U of M Morris and Macalester College.

“While she will not be eligible to compete for the National Merit Scholarship Program scholarships and awards, she will put herself in rare company as she makes applications to colleges/universities and their various scholarship programs,” said Principal Keith Randklev.
