Sports Roundup: Spartan Boys, Girls Fall In Orono Tournament Finales
St. Michael-Albertville spoils the party with back-to-back victories over the hosts on Wednesday.

The Orono soccer teams had their parties spolied as the second-ranked girls and fifth-ranked boys squads were both upended in their respective host tournament championship games by visiting St. Michael-Albertville last Wednesday.
Orono Boys Soccer
A 3-2 overtime loss to STMA wrested the Orono Tournament title away from the host Spartans.

Orono's goals by Willi Semsch and Noah Schultz, pushed the game into the extra session, but they were not enough to deliver a first-place finish as the Knights stole away the victory.
The Spartans, 1-2 on the year, play at Hutchinson at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

Orono Girls Soccer
A 3-2 loss to STMA in their tourney finale was the first setback of the season for the Orono girls soccer team and it left the Spartans as the second-place finisher in their own contest after topping St. Louis Park, 3-2, in the opener on Tuesday.
Individual statistics were not available. Orono, now 2-1 on the season, plays on the road for the first time this year in a trip to Mound Westonka at 2 p.m. Friday.
Orono Volleyball
The Orono volleyball team claimed a home win in its season opener on Tuesday, defeating St. Anthony in four games (25-18, 21-25, 25-21, 25-10).
Individual statistics were not available. The Spartans play at Hopkins, the ninth-ranked team in Class AAA, at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Wayzata Volleyball
The Wayzata volleyball team, ranked third in Class AAA, won its season opener on Tuesday by defeating Apple Valley in four games (25-20, 25-13, 24-26, 25-20).
Individual statistics were not available. The Trojans play at Eastview at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Wayzata Cross-Country
The Wayzata boys cross-country team won the Apollo Early Bird Invitational, held in St. Cloud on Tuesday.
Individual statistics were not available. The Trojans recorded 50 points as a team, 10 better than second-place Andover.
Wayzata Girls Tennis
The Wayzata girls tennis team improved to 4-0 in dual matches this season with a 6-1 defeat of Providence Academy on Tuesday.

Mound Westonka Volleyball
A three-game sweep of Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity on Tuesday got the Mound Westonka volleyball team's season off to a triumphant start.
The White Hawks cruised to 25-9, 25-18, 25-11 victory on their home court; individual statistics were not available.
Mound Westonka plays at Watertown-Mayer at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Mound Westonka Boys Soccer
A 1-0 win over visiting Southwest Christian on Tuesday improved the Mound Westonka boys soccer team to 2-0 on the season.
