Spring Sports Calendar Turns From April To May

Teams from Wayzata, Mound-Westonka and Orono inch closer to the postseason.

As the spring sports calendar turned from April to May, teams from Wayzata, Mound-Westonka and Orono moved closer to the postseason with a number of contests on both sides of the weekend.

Wayzata Boys Lacrosse: Trojans Even Record At 3-3

An 11-5 win at Lake Conference rival Hopkins on April 28 evened the Wayzata boys lacrosse team's record at 3-3 overall and 1-2 on the circuit standings.

Ryan Biek led the Trojans with four goals, while Eric Fong scored three goals and John Michael Coon two goals.

Wayzata travels to Edina for a Tuesday matchup at 7:30 p.m.

Wayzata Girls Lacrosse: Trojans Win Second Of Season

The Wayzata girls lacrosse team topped Hopkins, 13-4, on April 28 to improve to 2-5 on the spring.

Haley Hobday and Mackenzie Shannon netted three goals apiece, with Taylor Kramer and Amber Schwab scoring twice each.

The Trojans travel to Wayzata for a 5:30 p.m. game on Tuesday.

Wayzata Baseball:  Trojans Drop To 3-5

Back-to-back Lake losses to Hopkins (14-8) and Eden Prairie (4-1) on April 29 and May 2, respectively, dropped the Wayzata baseball team to 3-5 on the season.

Offensively, Ryan Poppitz leads the Trojans with a .600 batting average and nine runs batted in, while Jake Steinbach's six runs scored pace the team.

Off the mound, pitcher Paul Voelker leads the way with a 1.12 earned run avereage, three complete games and 33 strikeouts.

Wayzata hosts Eden Prairie on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Wayzata Softball: Trojans Dominate Edina

An 11-1 defeat of Lake foe Edina on May 2 boosted the Wayzata softball team to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in the conference; the victory came after a 5-4 loss at Hopkins on April 29.

Individual results were not available. The Trojans host Eden Prairie on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.

Wayzata Boys Tennis: Five-Match Win Streak For Trojans

The Wayzata boys tennis team improved to 7-1 on the year with a 5-2 defeat of Minneapolis South on April 29 and a 6-1 besting of Benilde-St. Margaret's on May 2. Individual results were not available.

Wayzata Boys Golf: Lowenstein Medalist In Trojans Win

Tyler Lowenstein's round of 49 earned him medalist honors as the Wayzata boys golf team defeated Minnetonka, 202-209, in a Lake meet at Wayzata Country Club on May 2.

Wayzata Girls Golf: Burnham Leads Trojans To Victory

Sarah Burnham carded a meet-best score of 38 at Wayzata Country Club as the Wayzata girls golf team defeated Edina, 169-180, on May 2.

Orono Girls Lacrosse: Spartans 14, Maple Grove 12

The Orono girls lacrosse team defeated Maple Grove, 14-12, on April 30 after losing, 20-11, to Chaska/Chanhassen on April 28 to enter this week at 4-3 on the year.

Jordan Nielson leads the Spartans with 17 goals, with Shea Noerenberg and Catherine Fraser netting 16 and 12 goals, respectively, this spring.

Orono hosts Robbinsdale Cooper at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Orono Baseball: Spartans Fall To 1-5

A 12-4 loss to visiting Wright County Conference opponent Delano on April 28 dropped the Orono baseball team to 1-5 on the season.

Individual statistics were not available. The Spartans travel to Litchfield for a 6p.m. game on Tuesday.

Orono Softball: Spartans Open Month With A Win

The Orono softball team topped Dassel-Cokato, 8-3, on May 2 to improve to 7-2 this spring. 

Individual statistics were not available. The Spartans play at Litchfield at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Orono Girls Golf: Trojans Fourth In Conference Meet

The Orono girls golf team recorded a 191 to finish fourth in a Wright County Conference meet at Albion Ridges Golf Course on April 28. Individual results were not available.

Orono Boys Tennis: Trojans Improve To 7-1

A 5-2 defeat of Chanhassen on May 2 improved the Orono boys tennis team to 7-1 on the season; the Trojans also topped Hutchinson on April 28. Individual results were not available. 

Mound-Westonka Girls Lacrosse: Whitehawks Level Record At 3-3

The Mound-Westonka girls lacrosse team won 10-9 at St. Cloud on May 2 to improve to 3-3 on the season after defeating Robbinsdale Cooper (16-11) on April 28 and losing at Becker (13-9) on April 29.

Kia Johnson leads the Whitehawks with 14 goals, with Kayla Schultz and Jessica Nkhata netting nine and seven goals, respectively.

Mound-Westonka hosts Eastview on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Mound-Westonka Baseball: Litchfield 3, Whitehawks 2

The Mound-Westonka baseball team lost 3-2 at Litchfield to drop to 4-3 on April 29.

Individual results were not available. The Whitehawks host Annandale on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.

Mound-Westonka Softball: Whitehawks Remain Unbeaten

A 9-6 win at Glencoe-Silver Lake on May 2 kept the Mound-Westonka softball team unbeaten at 6-0, after the Whitehawks shutout Litchfield by a 10-0 score on April 29.

KatieJo Delisle leads the team with a .625 batting average, with McKae Bailey's eight RBI and Brooklyn Pouti's eight runs scored also pacing the club.

Mound-Westonka travels to Annandale at 4 p.m. Tuesday night.

Mound-Westonka Boys Tennis: Whitehawks Up Record To 9-1

The Mound-Westonka boys tennis team improved to 9-1 on the year with a 5-2 win over Holy Family Catholic on April 28 and a 6-1 defeat of Blue Earth on May 2. Individual results were not available.

Mound-Westonka Girls Golf: Whitehawks Tenth At Wright County Meet

The Mound-Westonka girls golf team carded a 220 to take tenth at a Wright County meet at Albion Ridges Golf Course on April 28. Individual statistics were not available.
