SUGAR IS YOUR FAST TRACK TO DIABETES
On the Standard North American Diet, it is only a matter of time before insulin receptors burn out, unable to handle the onslaught of sugar.
The need for your body to move sugar into the cells for energy, rather than leave it in the blood stream, requires the hormone insulin to move sugar across the cell membrane. Insulin, produced by the pancreas, binds to insulin receptors on the cell membrane to bring sugar into the cells to be converted into energy. While this system is effective to a point, the constant bombardment of sugar and elevation of insulin eventually causes the insulin receptors to burn out. Essentially, the receptors get TIRED or OVERWHELMED and stop LISTENING. The result is evevated sugar in the blood, in other words: diabetes.
Now, I don't know if you know anyone with diabetes or not. If you did, you would know that it has a devestating effect on your health long-term. Things like neurological parasthesias, poor circulation which can lead to amputation of limbs, vision damage, kidney disease and heart disease, to name a few. This is not a disease you want to live with and manage your entire life. It is so much easier to manage NOT EATING TOO MUCH SUGAR (OR ANYTHING THAT TURNS INTO SUGAR!).
