SUGAR IS ONE OF THE PRIMARY REASONS FOR HIGH CHOLESTEROL
Contrary to what we in the United States have been taught, cholesterol is not the enemy. Your body actually makes its own cholesterol. Cholesterol is necessary to synthesize hormones, to repair and protect cell membranes, to make vitamin D, to make bile acids that digest fat, to support healthy neurologic function. Your body increases its production of cholesterol in times of stress to produce the stress hormones, adrenaline and epinephrine. Cholesterol is likely to rise as a part of any healing process with in the body. Sadly, we have been taught to FEAR the elevation of cholesterol vs looking at the potential CAUSES of its increase and dealing with that first.
While glucose (sugar) is the fuel your body runs on at a cellular level, too much of it in your system can cause trauma at a cellular level. When sugar levels are high, the pancreas responds by increasing levels of insulin in order to remove excess sugar from the blood steam. When this is a chronic or daily occurrence, it is a chemical stress on the body with in turn increases inflammation (reason #5).
The solution to high cholesterol is, first and foremost, to do everything you can to reduce chemical, physical and mental stressors that will cause the stress response in the body. This will be safer long term than forcefully trying to lower it with a medication. Just medicating high cholesterol is in direct opposition to your body's innate response to stress. Work with your body to heal you, not against it! Remove processed sugar, breads, crackers and cookies from your diet and watch your cholesterol plummet!
