Wayzata Baseball Rallies To Win Playoff Opener

Voelker goes the distance as Trojans triumph 3-2 in eight innings at St. Louis Park in Section 6AAA Tournament.

Paul Voelker went the distance as the Wayzata baseball team rallied to defeat host St. Louis Park, 3-2, in eight innings on Thursday afternoon in the Section 6AAA Tournament opener.

St. Louis Park took a 2-0 lead in fifth inning, yet left two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the sixth before the Trojans commenced their comeback.

Bryan Tabery and David Reynolds scored in the Wayzata seventh inning to knot the score and send the game to the extra frame before Maris Blanchard's sacrifice fly plated Jake Steinbach with the winning tally in the top of the eighth.

Volker made the one-run lead stick by shutting down the Orioles in the home half of the frame to give the Trojans the victory.

Wayzata, now 6-11 on the season, is scheduled to travel to fourth-seeded Hopkins (10-10) on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
