Wayzata's Solis Cruises Into Semifinals In Girls State Tennis Tourney

Solis wins two opening matches in straight sets to advance to today's semifinals in the Class AA girls state tennis singles competition

 senior Lucia Solis breezed into the singles semifinals of the Class AA girls state tennis tournament Thursday with a pair of straight set victories.

Playing at in the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center, Solis scored a 6-2, 6-1 win over Danielle Donahue of Eagan in the opening round. In the quarterfinals, Solis dropped Michaela Schultz of Elk River 6-2, 6-4.

Solis will play Rochester Century eighth grader Jessica Aney in one of the two semifinals today, starting at 8 a.m. If Solis wins, she’ll advance in the state singles finals. A loss in the semifinals would put her into the third place match. Both the championship and third places matches are at 11:30 in the Baseline Tennis Center.

Wayzata’s Alissa Heiring and Caitlin Eichten lost twice in the Class AA girls state tennis tournament Thursday in the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center and were eliminated from the competition.

Heiring and Eichten lost to Brainerd’s Mikinzee Salo and Kayla Kremer 7-6, (7-4), 6-3 in the opening round Thrusday morning. In consolation play, Heiring and Eichten were beaten 6-2, 6-1 by the Lakeville South team of Shelby Henderson and Erika Williams.
