Wayzata Swimming and Diving Team Hopes to Make Splash At State Meet
The Trojans, who advanced to the state swimming and diving championship after winning the Section 5AA championships, hope to improve on last year's fourth place finish.

The Trojans advanced to the state swimming and diving championship this weekend after winning the Section 5AA championships last week.
Freshman Brooke Fontaine earned Diver of the Meet, junior Emma Paulson was named Swimmer of the Meet and Mike Yasis was selected as Diving Coach of the Meet. Wayzata, the defending True Team State champions, finished fourth in the state championship last year behind Lake Conference rivals Edina and Eden Prairie, who finished first and second and third place finisher Stillwater.
Wayzata qualified all three relays and 12 individual events to State this week.
The 200 Medley Relay, made up of junior Emma Paulson, eighth grader Madison Preiss, junior Mackenzie Merriam and eighth grader Anna Petty, set a new section record with a time of 1:48.80. Junior Mackenzie Merriam set a section record in the 100 fly with a time 58.75. Fellow classmate Emma Paulson set a record in the 100 back with a time of 56.52.
Junior Kirsten Olson in the 200 free, eighth grader Madison Preiss in the 200IM and 100 breast, junior Emma Paulson in the 50 free and 100 back, eighth grader Tessa Anderson and freshmen Brooke and Nicole Fontaine in diving, juniors Mackenzie Merriam and Steph Deis in the 100 fly, and eighth grader Anna Petty in the 100 free and 100 breast all qualified for state.
Wayzata won the 200 and 400 freestyle relays last year.

Mackenzie Merriam –Wayzata
The junior set a section record in the 100 fly with a time 58.75 at the section meet. She was part of the section record setting 200 medley relay team.
Emma Paulson –Wayzata
The junior set a record in the 100 back with a time of 56.52. She will also advance to the state meet in the 50 free and 100 back. She was part of the section record setting 200 medley relay team.
