Wayzata Wrestler Places Fourth in State Tournament
Wayzata and the Mound-Westonka/Holy Family wrestling teams each sent five individual wrestlers to the state tournament.
wrestler Weston Droegemueller battled to the state tournament semi-finals and finished fourth place in the 138-pound class.
Four other Wayzata wrestlers competed in the state tournament, which took place Mar. 2 and Mar. 3 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Nick O’Brien advanced to the semifinals of the consolation matches in the 113-pound class. He finished sixth place.
Jake Stufft and Harrison Wright, Wayzata wrestlers in the 120 and 285-pound classes, respectively, lost their first round and consolation matches. Collin Sohn in the 132-pound class won his first match in overtime, before falling in his next match and first consolation match.

Five Mound-Westonka/Holy Family wrestlers made a showing in the state tournament. Wrestlers Sam Bennyhoff in the 106-pound class, Ryder Schmidt in the 160-pound class, and Bryan Tierney in the 170-pound class lost their matches in the first round and in the consolation competition.
Tyler Hebig advanced to the quarterfinals in the 145-pound class and won an overtime match in the consolation matches. Will Van Sant in the 195-pound class, also made it to the quarterfinals, but lost his next match. In the consolation competition, he won the first match by injury default, and lost the next match.
