American Rescue Plan Awarded Minneapolis $271 Million

MINNEAPOLIS — The city of Minneapolis was awarded $271 million from the federal American Rescue Plan that was signed into law last year.

In total, $350 billion to state, local, and Tribal governments across the nation from the law, which aimed to boost cities amid the COVID-19 health crisis. Of that money, 2.8 billion came to Minnesota.

Under the law, state and local governments can use the funding for:

  • Replace lost public sector revenue
  • Respond to the pandemic-related public health and economic impacts
  • Provide extra pay for essential workers
  • Invest in water, sewer, and broadband infrastructure

Minneapolis officials plan to use 119 million of their funds for revenue replacement. The rest of the funding will go to housing projects, public health, public safety, and climate-related initiatives.
