LAKEVILLE, MN — Lakeville is considering a one-year moratorium on new residential construction, a proposal the Minnesota Star Tribune reported city leaders are expected to vote on April 20.
City Council members say the fast-growing south metro suburb needs time to assess pressure on schools, infrastructure, and the environment while reviewing how a package of housing bills at the Capitol could affect local zoning.
The proposal comes as lawmakers debate the bipartisan “Yes to Homes” agenda, which would require local governments to allow denser housing types in more places to address Minnesota’s housing shortage.
The ordinance would not completely halt construction. Work could continue on already approved housing units, complete subdivision applications, and properties already undergoing environmental review.
