Lakeville 2027–2031 Capital Improvement Plan Explained (southmetroscoop.com) — Lakeville's draft 2027–2031 Capital Improvement Plan lays out big-ticket projects that will shape your daily life, including a second water treatment plant, a rebuilt Fire Station 3, and a major expansion of the city's maintenance facility. The plan also schedules key road work on Dodd Boulevard, the I‑35/County Road 50 interchange, new parks, and water system upgrades, with a council vote set for Oct. 5.
2. Lakeville Being Considered to Host Expo 2031 World's Fair (southmetroscoop.com) — Lakeville is officially in the running to host Expo 2031, a billion‑dollar horticultural World's Fair that could bring tens of thousands of visitors a day and leave a major legacy site near I‑35 and County Road 70. The city hasn't committed money or approvals yet, and residents can ask hard questions about traffic, costs, and long‑term land use at an open house Oct. 21 at Lakeville City Hall.
3. Local and county officials studying Lakeville roundabout known to cause car crashes (cbsnews.com) — Local and Dakota County officials are re‑examining Lakeville's busy roundabout at County Roads 50 and 60, which has logged more than 400 crashes from 2023 to 2025. A new safety study could recommend anything from added bypass lanes to completely replacing the roundabout with traffic signals, and residents will get at least one chance to weigh in before a 2029 deadline.
4. South defense snaps back against Lakeville North (hometownsource.com) — Lakeville South's football team bounced back from a tough loss by beating crosstown rival Lakeville North 26–6, with a stingy defense and three long touchdown runs from Griffen Dean. The long‑running rivalry now stands at 13–12 in North's favor, and both teams head into important Sept. 25 matchups that could shape their seasons.
