Former accountant and CFO enters the junk business

Ed Fogarty, one of twelve children and lifetime resident of the area, owns a new Junk King hauling and recycling franchise in Minneapolis. Fogarty grew up on what he calls a “hobby farm,” in Belle Plaine. Later he attended St. Thomas College in St. Paul where he got his education in accounting. From accounting he took a job with a manufacturer where he rose to the position of CFO. But Fogarty always had a yen to run his own business.

If anything about Ed Fogarty story reminds you of the typical, or even familiar family scenario, let me assure you he isn’t your typical small business owner. Yes, he coached wrestling when his son was in a local program, and he watches his daughters play soccer. Oh, and Fogarty also donated one of his kidneys to his oldest sister, Mary. It was a perfect match, and his sister’s kidneys were failing her. Fogarty feels the experience changed his life. It certainly changed his sister’s prospects for the future, but her brother was happy for the opportunity.

“I am a people person,” says Fogarty.

About his new business, he says, “I like to make people happy, and I like to do good things for the earth. It just seemed like a perfect company for me.”

Junk King hauling and recycling was founded in 2005 by two childhood friends.  They wanted to form a dependable, affordable, and green junk hauling business that didn’t rely on rickety pickups and unreliable workers who dumped everything that didn’t fly out of the back of the truck into the landfills. From one San Francisco Peninsula location, Junk King has grown to nearly 40 franchises, all fully bonded, insured, and licensed to haul and recycle. The franchises recycle nearly 60% of all material they haul, and they provide services to homeowners, businesses, realtors, and property managers.
