Bell’Alma Duo Will Conclude Coffee Concerts Season at Arts Center

The 2013 season of Coffee Concerts at the Lakeville Area Arts Center ends Sunday, May 19.

Editor's Note: The following is a press release from the Lakeville Area Arts Center.

The 2013 season of Coffee Concerts at the Lakeville Area Arts Center (LAAC) concludes with the Bell’Alma Duo, Kathy Kienzle, harp, and Michele Frisch, flute, Sunday, May 19, at 2 p.m.

Kathy Kienzle is Principal Harp of the Minnesota Orchestra, and Michele Frisch is Principal Flute of the Minnesota Opera Orchestra.  They present a variety of duos for Flute and harp, including repertoire from their three highly acclaimed CDs, O Bell’ Alma and La Belle Vie, exploring operatic music, and their most recent recording, Bella Danza, Music of the Dance.  The Gramophonedeclared O Bell’ Alma one of the “Best New Recordings from North America.”  “Flutist and harpist play as one ‘beautiful soul,’” according to Minnesota Public Radio.  The Flute Network agrees: “These are fresh and engaging major works that deserve a wide audience and repeated hearings. The performances are first rate and have the singing quality we have come to expect from this exceptional duo.”  The Bell’Alma Duo’s website is www.fluteharpduo.com.

The coffee concerts at the LAAC are presented in a casual, conversational cabaret setting with complimentary refreshments including Valley Natural Foods scones and Caribou Coffee.  This is the sixth season of series at the LAAC founded by the Vecchione/Erdahl Duo, Carrie Vecchione, oboe, and Rolf Erdahl, double bass, who continue to organize the annual four-concert series.

“The last concert of our season has developed into quite a party,” says Erdahl.  “We announce the coming 2013-14 season, offer door prizes including CDs and tickets to the next season, and have a great reception spread to accompany the music.”

Vecchione is also looking forward to this season finale.  “I’ve been listening to their CDs looking forward to the concert and it’s some really wonderful playing and great music.  The audience is in for a treat!"

Tickets are available in advance or at the door at $14.50 for adults, and $12 for students and seniors at the LAAC, 20965 Holyoke Ave. in Lakeville, 952-985-4640.

Highview Hills by Walker is the Season Sponsor for the fifth year in a row.  Caribou Coffee at Cedar and Dodd, Valley Natural Foods, and Cornerstone Copy, Lakeville donated refreshments and printing services.  This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
